The new version of Google Analytics – GA4 was launched in October 2020. Google has been advising website owners to upgrade to GA4 for the last 826 days.
Google has advised that it is important to upgrade as early as possible to ensure that you are building a traffic history in the new platform and to provide time to ensure your setup and configuration in GA4 is correct.
In December 2023 access to Universal Analytics is going to be removed. This means that your historical data since you started using Google Analytics will be deleted. You will not be able to access or compare your traffic to periods prior to July 2023. This is a huge deal for lots and lots of businesses.
As long as you act soon, there are options to extract your historic data from Universal Analytics.
We have upgraded over 40 sites from Universal Analytics to GA4 and managed the historical data extraction for many sites.
As we move closer to June 2023, the number of sites scrambling to meet the deadline is going to create a massive demand for migration services. Our advice is in line with Google’s: make sure you plan how you want to manage your historical data and upgrade to GA4 as soon as possible.
